# Customize branding and design

<Lead>
Your workspace appears under your own brand: with its own name, logo, brand colors and favicon. This page shows where you manage all of that and how the platform design fits in.

## Requirements

<Info title="Permission">
Changing the name, branding and design requires the branding write permission. Owners and admins have it by default. Without it, the pages are read-only for you. More on roles: [Workspace and roles](/help/grundlagen/workspace-und-rollen).
</Info>

<Warning title="Logo and favicon start with the Compact plan">
During the trial your workspace runs under the shared platform address. You can already set your brand colors in the trial. Logo and favicon unlock with your first paid plan.
</Warning>

## Set a favicon

The favicon is the small symbol in the browser tab. By default the browser tab shows your icon, which suits most workspaces. Only if you deliberately want a different tab symbol, upload your own under **Settings > Branding**, section **Favicon**: ICO, PNG or SVG, 16 to 512 px, square.

## Choose the platform design

Under **Settings > Design** you choose the platform design of your workspace. The choice applies to all members: dashboard, properties, tools and marketplace.

- Currently **Aurora** is available and active: warm, calm and precise, with neutral surfaces and very soft gradients as its signature. Light and dark are designed as equals.
- Two more designs are in the making and marked as **In Arbeit** (in progress). They will unlock once they are finished.
- Your brand colors and logos are preserved in every design.

<Tip title="Light or dark is personal">
Whether the interface appears light or dark is each person's own choice: in the profile menu or under **Account > Appearance**. The platform design, by contrast, applies workspace-wide.
</Tip>

## Frequently asked questions

<Faq>
  <FaqItem q="Why can I not upload a logo?">
    During the trial, logo and favicon are still locked; only the brand colors can be set. Both uploads unlock with the first paid plan (Compact and up). If you are already on a paid plan, you are probably missing the branding write permission: ask an owner or admin.
  </FaqItem>
  <FaqItem q="Where do my customers see the branding?">
    Logo, colors and favicon shape every customer-facing surface of your workspace, from the top bar mark to the browser tab. On a paid plan your workspace additionally runs under your own subdomain, and later under your [custom domain](/help/howto/custom-domain) if you want.
  </FaqItem>
  <FaqItem q="I have no logo. What does the platform show?">
    An automatically generated monogram from the initials of your workspace name, tinted in your brand color. It looks tidy, and you can add a logo any time later.
